Tommy Thompson was elected governor of Wisconsin five times before resigning in 2001 to become President Bush's secretary of health and human services, a job he has since left. Previously, he spent 20 years in the Wisconsin general assembly. He was born in Elroy, Wis., in 1941 and earned undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Thompson is married to Sue Ann and has three children, Kelli, Tommi, and Jason. He withdrew from the presidential race on Aug. 12, 2007.
